Wimbledon
Overlooking the cherished South Park Gardens in Wimbledon, this Edwardian house has undergone a complete transformation, redefining its presence on Kings Road.
Matthew Giles Architects approached the project with a tactile and warm interpretation of massing and architectural detailing, crafting a bold yet elegantly resolved family home that enhances the street's character. The design serves as a contemporary counterpart to the traditional brick homes that define this historic area.
The clients, a family of four with two young children, sought to extend, remodel, and refurbish their newly acquired but dilapidated south London home. They envisioned creating a truly bespoke residence that not only met their spatial needs but also improved the building’s thermal efficiency. With a deep understanding of the local Victorian architecture, the design team crafted a modern interpretation of these classic homes, reintroducing brick façades in place of the original white render to harmonize with the South Park Gardens Conservation Area.
