Peckham

green roof extension design

The roof of the extension is clad in a sedum grass blanket, as if the piece of garden we are building on has been lifted up in place.

The modest height of the rear extension maintains the view of the original rear elevation from the garden, and provides a continuous vista from the dining room to the garden, overlooking the new green roof.

Our aim was to improve the layout and sequence of spaces within the house and garden, without compromising the amount of green space.

The proposed design forms a series of new levels, harmoniously connecting the existing levels of the main house to the rear garden, and creating two new living spaces (inside and outside). Although these spaces appear to be an extension to the main house, the actual concept is reversed and they act as an extension to the garden.
