PECKHAM
returning the building to its original use as a single family home - The Design improves organisation and flow throughout.
This large Victorian house in Peckham posed numerous design challenges. The building, which has operated as a church hall, a social club and an independent school, had been stripped of all original fittings and been re-organised in a haphazard fashion over the years in order to fulfill its various functions.
Internal partitions were rationalized and generous door openings created in order to provide free-flowing circulation and to make the most of views through the building. Natural light was also an important consideration as the house was also to be used as a gallery space for our client to exhibit her own paintings.
The seemingly simple arrangement of spaces are the result of a rigorous process of architectural planning and careful detailing, combined with a sympathetic material palette.
